The Big Sheep, Clovelly Court Gardens, The Milky Way Adventure Park and Crealy Great Adventure Park all made the top 10 in a list of Devon’s most social attractions, according to a study by camping and glamping specialist

The Devon Association of Tourist Attractions' members were featured in a round-up of Devon’s 50 tourist spots with the most Facebook check-ins, measuring the popularity of destinations with social-media savvy visitors.

The Big Sheep was placed fifth in the overall list with 31,095 Facebook check-ins. Clovelly Court Gardens was just behind in sixth with 30,524 check-ins; The Milky Way Adventure Park came eighth with 25,509 check-ins, and Crealy Great Adventure placed ninth with 22,250.

Devon’s most social attractions was named as Paignton Zoo, which has received more than 95,000 check-ins on Facebook. Exeter Quayside was seconf with 52,747, followed by Dawlish Warren Beach in third place (52,237) and Torquay’s Princess Theatre in fourth position (41,526).

Visitors to any attraction can digitally ‘check-in’ on Facebook to give their friends a real-time update of where they are and what they are doing. Once they’ve checked in they can add comments, photos, videos or even live stream to share their experience. 

Anne Blackham, of the Devon Association of Tourist Attractions' said: “We were thrilled to see so many of our members appearing in this list. As well as the four attractions that made it into the top 10, many more DATA members appeared in the top 50, including Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park, Pecorama and Quince Honey Farm. Congratulations to everyone.”

“We were delighted to see such a wide range of destinations in our top 50, which includes everything from beaches to zoos, gardens to theme parks.”

To compile their top 50 list, the team at reviewed the Facebook pages of more than 170 Devon attractions and totaled their number of check-ins.
