Summertime Fun at Devon’s Top Attractions

The temperature is rising and Devon’s Top 40 Attractions are gearing up to offer their best ever sizzling summer of non-stop fun and entertainment. The top visitor attractions are spread right across the length and breadth of the county. So whether you live locally or are on holiday, there are sure to be a selection of attractions nearby offering a great day out for you and your family to enjoy.

This summer is set to see three new major ride developments open with thrills and spills promised for everyone. The BIG Sheep and Crealy Adventure Park are both nearing completion with their brand new state of the art rollercoasters. Whilst Watermouth Castle will soon be announcing the opening of their new family toboggan ride.

The top attractions aren’t just offering a great day out, they are offering all sorts of special events too, with well over a hundred events currently listed on their website for July and August alone. They are certain to have a day out suited to everyone’s taste.

Some of these events offer special days out with appearances from your child’s favourite characters like ‘Ben and Holly’ who will be making a star appearance at the Milky Way on 2nd August and at Crealy on the 26th August. Then there is everyone’s much-loved pig called Peppa, who will be appearing at several of the top attractions throughout the summer holidays. The Gruffalo will be appearing for one day only at The BIG Sheep on Sunday 26th July.

There will be themed weeks galore, perfect for children to get lost in their imaginations.  Over the next few weeks there will be a Knights and Dragons week, a Fairytale week and a Wonderland week all at Powderham Castle. Crealy Adventure Park have a Willy Wonka’s Weekend coming up very soon.

Those lazy days of summer are perfect for ‘messing about on the river’ – visit Escot Park on Sunday 26th July for a special themed day or everyday throughout the holidays at River Dart Country Park.  Head over to Pennywell Farm on the 29th August and you could do a spot of celebrity pond dipping with Nick Baker!

Summer is a time to get out and about in the great outdoors. Why not enjoy some outdoor theatre, set in the beautiful grounds at two of Devon’s National Trust’s properties at Killerton and Knightshayes? Or you can watch a live concert and revisit the music of your youth at a 60’s 70’s or 80’s concert at Bicton Park whilst picnicking with family and friends.

Ever fancied getting lost while wandering through a hedge maze? This can be can be done at several of the top visitor attractions this summer. There will also be some good old teddy bear picnic days on offer, just right for the little ones and the teddy bears themselves of course!  Get crafty at Quince Honey Farm at their Honey Bee Crafts weekend on the 22nd and 23rd August and be enthralled with their amazing and captivating Bee Beard Show.

hy not venture deep underground and be scared witless at one of Kents Caverns’ evening ghost tours or enjoy a murder mystery evening at the National Marine Aquarium or Dartmouth Steam Railway.

Summer is a time for adults to enjoy the beer festivals and there’s one coming up soon at Dartmouth Steam Railway on the 18th and 19th July and a Beer and Music Festival weekend at Morwellham Quay the following weekend.
