‘Everyone’s Perfect Day Out’ at Devon’s Top Attractions

There’s a real buzz in the air at Devon’s Top Attractions as we head towards the May Half Term holidays. Preparations are well underway at the attractions as they are busy putting together an exciting special events and activities programme, which will be sure to captivate and delight and not just for the young ones.

The events kick off on Saturday 23rd May at the Devon County Show where you can see Devon’s Top Attraction’s mascots join together and compete in a hilarious obstacle race.  They will then launch their 30th Anniversary dance video, performing live for the first time. The Devon County Show, open 21 – 23 May and is offering free entry to children on Saturday 23 May.

Devon’s Top Attractions are being visited this half term by lots of your favourite characters.  Peppa Pig will be at Woodlands Family Theme Park on the 29th May and other dates through August. While the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be taking over the Milky Way Adventure Park on Sunday 24th May. Devon’s Crealy have an exciting ‘Superheroes’ character day on Weds 27th May as well as the famous Crocodile Joe visiting on 28th - 29th May.

There will be lots of ‘swashbuckling’ pirate adventure fun all around the county during half term.  Powderham Castle have a fun-filled ‘Pirate Week’ from Sunday 24th May with the notorious Captain Jack on the lookout for new crew members.  Meanwhile, in East Devon, there is a whole week of exciting ‘Pirate shenanigans’ starting 25th May at World of Country Life.  There is more Pirate fun at the Miniature Pony Centre for one day only on Monday 25th May.  Escot Park have a Bushcraft Week from 23rd May and a Camp Wild Day (KIDS GO FREE) on Tues 26th May where you can check-out the Yurt Village.

You can venture underground at Kents Cavern from 23rd May for a Fossil Hunt, part of Geopark Festival Week, or join in with the special children’s activities at the beautiful Canonteign Falls. Be amazed at Pennywell Farm with Matt Pang and his unique mix of juggling, acrobatics, unicycling and escapology, performing on the 23 - 24th May.  There is a ‘Picnic at the Park’ over at River Dart Country Park on Sunday 31st May, where you can sit on the lawns and listen to live music. Tickets for this are just £1 per person - tickets must be booked and collected in advance.

Whitsun is a time for adults to get out and about too and the attractions have lots on offer for all ages. There is a Drivers Eye Experience at Seaton Tramway on Monday 25th May where you can have a taste of what it is like to drive one of the trams.  Pecorama, have their annual vintage classic car rally on the 24th May which will be sure to enthrall any car fanatic. While South Devon Railway have a 1960’s BR mixed traction weekend and Spring Ale Festival from Friday 22nd - 25th May.

Simon Fishwick, Chairman of the Devon Association of Tourist Attractions,  said “This half term Devon’s Top Attractions have yet again excelled in offering an extensive range of exciting and interesting events”, he added “ We pride ourselves, regardless of age, on offering ‘everyone’s perfect day out’ and these events just go to prove this is the case”.
