The National Marine Aquarium’s Loggerhead Turtle ‘Snorkel’ immortalized in cake form

The National Marine Aquarium welcomed a very special delivery yesterday (9th April) – Plymouth’s favourite Loggerhead Turtle, Snorkel, in cake form!

Donated by Oak Furniture Land to celebrate the opening of its first store in Plymouth, the lifelike Snorkel cake measured an impressive 2ft by 4ft long. Created by cake artist, Christine Jensen from Conjurer’s Kitchen, the Snorkel cake did not only look incredible, but also tasted delicious – and visitors were able to sample the delights when slices of cake went on sale to raise funds for the charity.

Josh McCarty, Head of Marketing at the National Marine Aquarium, commented: “As the UK’s largest Aquarium, we thank Oak Furniture Land for their donation and welcome them to Plymouth.  The Snorkel cake is a nice gesture to highlight the marine conservation work that we do. We carry out many projects in the UK and internationally and educate 30,000 school children each year on curriculum based subjects.

“Snorkel washed up at Lands End in Cornwall suffering from epilepsy and has only 30% vision in one eye so is medicated daily by our animal husbandry team. She’s quite a character – that has definitely been captured by the cake artist. We hope our visitors were as impressed with the Snorkel cake as we were, and enjoyed tucking into a slice.”
