World of Country Life support Summer Reading Challenge!

Every year Exmouth Library takes part in the national Summer Reading Challenge scheme which is provided by the Reading Agency. Children read six books during the summer holiday and are rewarded with stickers, a medal and certificate. The purpose of the scheme is to maintain children’s reading skills and confidence during a period when traditionally their reading ability is liable to decline.

This year’s challenge had the theme of Animal Agents and was illustrated by Tony Ross of Horrid Henry fame.

The challenge is always popular in Exmouth but this year was bigger and better than ever with nearly 800 children taking part. The popularity this year is no doubt due to the impressive Finisher’s Party offered free to every child who completed the challenge.

Exmouth Library partnered up with local business and tourist attraction World of Country Life to provide two days of celebration and fun for the children of Exmouth. The parties were held on Thursday 31st August and Friday 1st September and were attended by over 900 children and adults. Children were treated to a performance by local entertainer Professor Bumble before spending the day exploring and enjoying the park's many attractions.

The team at World of Country Life have been extremely supportive of the reading challenge and incredibly generous in allowing so many local families to enjoy their facilities completely free of charge. The parties were a great success and we hope to collaborate with World of Country Life again in future to bring more family friendly events to Exmouth.
