Paignton Zoo focuses on making a difference where it matters, and encouraging as many people as possible to join them in doing so. From their two zoos and the reserves, and the field projects to the advocacy campaigns, they are here to achieve a vision where everyone can join in building a world rich in wildlife and wild places.

Paignton Zoo is part of Wild Planet Trust. The Trust was established in 2019; however, their work as a registered education, scientific and conservation charity goes back to 1957, with the formation of the Herbert Whitley Trust (later to become the Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust).

Although based in Devon, the work has a truly global impact, as they strive to achieve their vision through their field projects, and by inspiring their guests that visit the zoos and reserves.

Brilliant – Me and a friend booked a Giraffe experience and we’re not disappointed! Bryan was so knowledgeable and gave us the best experience to come up close with a Giraffe, you can tell they are well loved and looked after. We then went around the rest of the zoo and loved it, the red pandas were our favourite. I think this zoo is fantastic for all ages and I would go again! I definitely recommend.

Fabulous Zoo and environmental work. Visited on a quiet Tuesday in Dec and the zoo wasn’t busy and enjoyed a leisurely walk around the animals and were able to take our time and read the additional information the zoo provides on the status of the animals in the wild. Fabulous to see a successful breeding programme reaping the benefits of gorgeous babies. The habitats were good and well established. The landscaping around the zoo added to the well thought out routes to follow. Zoo staff were very evident busy looking after their animals.

Great Keepers! – We visited the zoo on a very wet and wild November morning. We arrived at 10am when the zoo opens and walked the paths in a figure of eight pattern. Many of the enclosures were closed or the animals had been moved. The lions had not yet arrived from their old home, and some walkways were closed due to the weather. Despite this, the zoo is in great shape and the animals seem very happy and well cared for. It’s a good size zoo with plenty of little shops/refreshments available when the weather is good. It’s also quite hilly so beware you will feel your legs in the morning! We came across several keepers at different points and each time they offered some tidbits of information about the animals and the species. There was a outbreak of a an flu here amongst the animals and there are plenty of measures in place but these are well signposted and not difficult to adhere to. Wonderful zoo I’d recommend!
