Exmoor Zoo

Exmoor Zoo quality assured

Winners of the best Small Legacy Family Business at the Small Awards sponsored by Facebook for the UK 2017!

Exmoor zoo is home to some of the most unique and unusual animals you can get to see in the UK. From sand & fishing cats to the “Exmoor Beast” (our black Leopards), Singing Dogs to Binturong but don’t fret…..., we also have some of everybody’s favourites meerkats, wolves, monkeys, parrots and tapirs.

As a family run zoo, we try to orientate the day so everyone can enjoy themselves. Along with your entry into the zoo, you get the chance to attend over 15 talks and encounter sessions in the summer and over 8 in the winter. You have free reign on what you want to do, feed and stroke a wallaby or be brave and hold a snake? Or perhaps, just wonder around to see the animals and enjoy a relaxing meal in our cafe, it’s up to you. Just keep an eye on the time and check our guide with the daily timetable of activities.

We’re located in a North Devon valley along the edge of Exmoor National Park, so we have an abundance of native Devon flora and fauna surrounding the zoo. This means the animal enclosures have lots of natural vegetation for their welfare and gives you the feel of a wild experience when trying to find them (you will need our map)!

In the heart of the countryside we stay open all year around and are constantly adapting and improving around the zoo. Just this year 2017 we have built two new aviaries, which house Aracari’s, (a type of toucan), Crowned pigeons (the size of a small dodo) and Vulturine Guineafowl which are now on exhibit. Just recently a pair of pademelon (a type of marsupial – the only pair in the UK), Chacoan maras and a young male yellow-throated marten have joined us. Owl monkeys, saki monkeys and two female rusty spotted cats from Germany have all arrived to try and help breed these species! The most anticipated build will be completed this winter by February 2018 - our Wolverine enclosure (we will let you know more). There is so much more here than first meets the eye, why not come and see for yourself?

Dog Friendly Regrettably dogs are not allowed in the zoo due to the livestock.
